Treat Yo Self - Valentine's Day Edition

I honestly love any excuse to spend money on myself and Valentine's Day is the perfect opportunity. Whether you're single or not Valentine's Day can be a great thing. It's important to treat yourself every now and then, and what better way to say you love yourself then to spend some money on yourself. Here's some ideas for Valentine's Day themed gifts either for yourself or for someone else:

I tried to incorporate items for every budget with multiple designers for every style. Some of these items make great gifts for your friends too for the perfect Galentine's Day such as the nail polish or lipsticks. Let me know in the comments below what your favorite item is or what you plan on buying yourself, I'm loving the Kate Spade Watch and it's less than $80!

OOTD: National Hat Day

One of my main go to winter outfits is a sweater with a button down, jeggings, and bean boots. It's so simple but still looks like you put some effort into your outfit. Bean boots are my absolute favorite boots to wear in the snow, and I love having socks peak out the top. A beanie is a great addition to keep your head warm and add a little something to a rather simple outfit. I also owe a huge thank you to my friend Courtney for taking these photos for me! Let's get started with the outfit:

Sweater: Ralph Lauren
Button Down: Vineyard Vines Outlet similar
Jacket: Gap Factory similar (under $40)
Jeggings: American Eagle
Boots: L.L. Bean
Hat: Forever 21 similar

Today (January 15th) is actually National Hat Day so I thought this was the perfect outfit to post today. I loved shooting this outfit and the woods made for the perfect background for this outfit. Although this jacket is a bit lighter and not necessarily ideal for a New England winter, the layers help to still stay warm. J. Crew Camp Socks are the perfect socks for keeping your feet warm in the freezing and snowy weather. If your winter isn't quite as cold, try lighter layers like I did in this outfit post! What's your favorite way to keep warm in the winter? Let me know in the comments below!

Sneaker Sensation

Over the past year or so sneakers have grown widespread acceptance as an everyday fashionable shoe. Every designer seems to be putting their own twist on such a common style. As much as I'd like a pair of Yeezys it's not exactly possible, so I've put together my favorite 10 pairs for everyday wear that can be worn with an array of outfits for anyone's budget and style. Keep in mind these sneakers are more so for fashion rather than exercise. Let's get started:

sneaker sensation

my favorites are bolded

1. Zora Perforated Sneaker: I love the perforated design and cheetah in the back. They are simple enough to be worn with tons of outfits, but still have a unique twist on the classic sneaker.

2. Common Projects Original Achilles Sneakers: These are pricey but since they are so simple than can basically be worn with anything and for many years to come.

3. Joie 'Dakota' Sneaker: Metallic is a great way to add something extra to your outfit without going overboard so I really like these sneakers.

4. Adidas Superstar Sneakers: Adidas Superstars are such a classic and I've been seeing them all over Instagram and blogs. I especially love the gold detail in this pair.

5. New Balance for J. Crew 620 Sneakers: I wouldn't really think of New Balance for having cute sneakers but this pair for J. Crew are an exception. I like that they're neutral with a pop of metallic.

6. Adidas Superstar 80s Rose Gold Metal Toe Cap Sneakers: These are another spin on Adidas' classic design that I love! Such a simple addition with the rose gold toe, but such a big impact on the overall design.

7. Brooks Coffeehouse Chariot Sneakers: These remind me of the New Balance design, which I actually kind of like. It's the perfect mix of colors for a cool neutral shoe.

8. Miu Miu Crystal-Embellished Suede Sneakers: These shoes probably aren't as versatile as the others due to the embellishments but they are still super cute. If you have a glam style, these will be perfect for you!

9. Nike Air Max 1 Premium Sneakers: These may have a bit more color to them, yet they are still neutral and simple enough for everyday wear. I usually don't like yellow, but these sneakers incorporate it perfectly.

10. Nike Air Max 1 Ultra Sneakers: I'm loving Air Maxes lately because they aren't quite as popular as Nike Roshe Run. I especially like the slight gold details in this grey pair.

Winter Weather Essentials

Colder weather is right around the corner so it's time to start stocking your closet up for the colder days ahead. I've put together what I consider are the essentials with a few different options and price ranges for each category. Lets get started!

winter weather essentials
click the links or photos below to shop each item

Coats:
A parka and/or down jacket are essential for keeping warm and dry.

Vests:
Vests are a great layering piece for colder weather, wear it under a jacket or on it's own on days that aren't so chilly.
J. Crew Vest | The North Face Vest

Boots:
Boots are essential for staying dry and not ruining your favorite shoes from water marks and salt. Snow boots are an obvious essential if you live in a snowy climate, however, you can also get away with wearing rain boots. UGGs may not be the cutest but they are definitely warm. (Not Pictured L.L. Bean Boots)

Hats:
Hats are essential for keeping your ears warm and can be perfect for messier hair days.
The North Face Beanie (Similar) | J. Crew Beanie
AEO Beanie | Portolano Hat

Gloves:
If you don't want to feel like your fingers are frozen, gloves are essential. And now with tech gloves that allow you to still use your phone normally, there's no reason not to wear a pair.
Kate Spade Tech Gloves | Bottega Veneta Gloves
Surell Mittens | DVF Gloves

Scarves:
Scarves are another great layering piece that can be worn with a jacket or on their own with an outfit.
Mango Knit Scarf | Burberry Cashmere Scarf
J. Crew Scarf | Halogen Pointelle Infinity Scarf (Similar)

Top 5 Need to Buy - January

A new month calls for a new wish list, therefore, I'm here with another Top 5 need to buy! I've been doing loads of shopping lately with Christmas money/gift cards and from finally working again, so it took some time to think of things left for my wishlist. Here's what did make the list:
Top5 need to buy January
1. Longchamp: this seems like such a versatile bag whether it's used for school, traveling, or a purse. It seems perfect for carrying around Boston and with plans to study abroad, I think it'd be the perfect bag to using traveling. It's definitely a timeless piece I want to invest in in the near future.

2. Cowl Neck Sweatshirt: I love that this seems super comfortable but still so trendy. I'm obsessed with turtlenecks so this seems perfect for days I'm feeling a bit lazier.

3. Sleep Shirt Sleep Pants: I'm not sure why but I really want a pajama set. I think it'll make me feel like I have my life together if my pajamas are matching for once (lol).

4. Ralph Lauren Moccasins: I need a nice pair of shoes to wear with button downs and more professional outfits when boots just don't seem like the right match. I have a few Macy's gift cards saved from the past couple of years and I think it's time to finally spend them. These shoes seem extremely versatile and I think I'd get a lot of use out of them, especially for upcoming internships.

5. Curling Wand: I've started parting my hair down the middle and I think it would look good curled. I only have curlers with the clamp and they always leave weird marks in my hair so I'm really interested in trying a wand. If you have any good recommendations please let me know because I don't know much about any!

2016 Goals and Resolutions

Untitled #178

After reading tons of articles, blog posts, and watching videos about other peoples resolutions, I've decided to put together my own list. Hopefully it'll help me remember my goals and resolutions by writing them down and overall help me to have a better year. I love that the beginning of the year is always a fresh start; after 2015 I could really use one. I have so much to look forward to in 2016 and can't wait to see where all 366 days will take me.

1. Talk less and listen more. I'm not going to lie this is something I really do need to work on. I'm always thinking about what I'm going to say next rather than completely listening. Hopefully by listenting more I will learn more and create stronger relationships.

2. Be more consistent. This one relates to many different aspects of my life. I want to blog more consistntly, focus on my school work more consistenetly, worry consistently less, and consistently  focus on my future. Although this one seems pretty broad, it's an important one for me.

3. Spend less time on my phone. I'm literally the girl thats constantly on her phone, and it's time to change that. I need to focus more on the moments in life that are happening and less on what's happening elsewhere. I need to create stronger relationships in person, rather than over text.

4. Focus on my happiness. I believe your 20s are the years to be selfish and I need to start putting my happiness first. This includes discovering what exactly makes me the happiest and once I figure that out I need to foucs on it more.

5. Get to know people. I'm pretty bad at getting to know new people honestly. I stick to the friends I've had my entire life and don't allow myself to get to know new people. I don't take the time it takes to get to know people and allow myself to get comfortable around them, but rather shut them out. There's so much to learn from new people and so many memories to be made, therefore this is another huge goal of mine.

6. Travel and Experience More. I tend to not take every oppurtunity for new experiences due to fear and the unknown so this is something I also want to work on. I want to see the world and experience everything I possibly can. I want to see and try new things. This world has so much to offer and I want to take advantage of everything in it.

7. Worry less about what other people think of me. This is probably one of the biggest things I struggle with and in 2016 I need to get over it. People will always have their thoughts on others, but who really cares? (me apparently) Will it really matter what someone thought of my outfit a year from now? No probably not, so it's time I start worrying less. Most people are worrying more about what others are thinking about them, rather than actually thinking negatively about other people, and I need to start remembering this.

8. Be more thankful. I have so many amazing things and people in my life and it's time I start acting like it. Rather than focusing on what I don't have and what could be better, I need to be thankful for what I do have.

Overall 2016 is going to be a year of focusing on myself & my happiness and creating new relationships & memories. I want to see the world and experience everything it has to offer and completely be in the moment. What are your goals & resolutions for 2016?
